Willow James is a Chicago-based arts leader, DJ, + multidisciplinary artist working in photography, sound design, + composition. He uses art as a platform for community healing + work that uplifts Black identity–building spaces where art + purpose meet. He currently serves as Civic Engagement Director at Definition Theatre (where he is also an ensemble member), a teaching artist with Court Theatre + Adjunct Faculty at DePaul University.
An award-winning sound designer, his credits include You Will Get Sick (Steppenwolf), Fat Ham (Definition /Goodman), The Nacirema Society (Goodman), A Raisin in the Sun (Court), The Band's Visit (TheatreSquared/Writers), Hymn (Chicago Shakespeare), Anna in the Tropics (American Players) + more.
He is also the founder of Clean Pour Club, a nomadic style pop-up bar featuring drinks inspired by people, places + stories.
